Carpets & Flooring

Carpet: Essential for Media Room

Solution-dyed nylon carpets in thick, luxurious piles are proving the perfect choice for those who prefer to lie on the floor than recline on the lounge to watch a movie.

Modern solution-dyed nylons are ultra-soft underfoot and extremely stain resistant as spills mop-up easily.

Available in a very wide range of fashion colours, the secret to the success of these carpets is in the dying process, which holds the key to colour-fastness and intensity.

While other manufacturing processes dye the fibres and or yarn prior to milling, dye is added to the molten nylon during the fibre manufacturing process to ensure even distribution of the colour though the finished solution-dyed nylon product.

FREE Carpet Advice

When it comes to buying carpet there are a few things you need to know in addition to which colour and pattern will suit you best.

From a more technical view point you’ll need to learn about the ‘run’ of the carpet.

The ‘run’ is the direction in which the pattern flows and this is important for achieving the best finished presentation in terms of joins and how the carpet travels from one room to the next.

If the carpet is ‘railroaded’ (turned sideways) to fit the next room and that carpet has a nap, it could appear to have a different colour, due to how the light falls on it.

If you are laying sisal or your carpet has a repeating pattern when turned on its side the result could be much worse – something akin to a T-junction at a doorway or at the end of a hall.

The ‘run’ of the carpet also determines the cost.

A cheaper quote for carpet may not always provide the best result. Saving a couple of hundred dollars could mean noticeable joins in obvious places and a chequerboard pattern as carpet ‘runs’ at opposing angles.

"During the quoting process, ask your carpet consultant to explain the laying plan and the reasoning behind their choices for ‘join’ positions. A good carpet layer will minimise the impact of joins so that you don’t notice them."

Pure Wool Carpets – Healthy Choice

There is nothing quite like pure wool carpet. It’s soft, warm and capable of transforming a house into a home.

And according to Wools of New Zealand, which is the principal supplier to the major pure wool carpet manufacturers in Australia, “wool is non-allergenic and does not promote the growth of dust mites or bacteria. Wool fibres are too long and too coarse to be inhaled and therefore do not affect asthma sufferers.” (The Carpet Book 2000)

But there are many other reasons for choosing wool. Among them durability, longevity due to its natural stain resistance, but perhaps above all else, the experience of luxury that comes with pure wool alone.

Resilient Flooring / Vinyl

Resilient Flooring otherwise known as ‘vinyl’ has come a long way since the days of linoleum.

Setting a new standard in quality and design, resilient flooring has low noise properties and is soft and warm underfoot. It is also extremely durable and easy to clean.

With an extensive range of patterns to choose from, resilient flooring is a wonderful alternative if you are looking for something that is different from traditional timber or tiled floors. The range of patterns is extensive including a number of modern ceramic tile designs through to stylish marble-look and sophisticated parquetry and timber look-alike patterns.

Please ask our Neuendorf Interiors Flooring Consultants to view our entire range of Resilient Flooring products.
